Wealthy, Influential, Leaning Republican and Pushing a Christie Bid for President

They are rich. They are unattached. They are looking for a little excitement.

-snip-

There is Kenneth G. Langone, the billionaire Home Depot founder who is perhaps Mr. Christie’s most fervent booster; Paul E. Singer, the publicity-shy hedge fund magnate and Republican activist who is among the most-sought-after Republican donors in the country; and David H. Koch, the industrialist, Tea Party benefactor and, according to Forbes, the richest man in New York.

Charles R. Schwab, the personal investment guru, is also among those who have shown interest in seeing a Christie presidential bid, according to published reports and people familiar with the discussions, as is the financier Stanley F. Druckenmiller. So are the hedge fund managers David Tepper and Daniel S. Loeb, a onetime supporter of President Obama.

-snip-

Many have ties to the Manhattan Institute, an incubator of the brand of urban conservatism — heavy on criticism of public employee unions and runaway state budgets — to which Mr. Christie is the country’s most visible Republican heir. Mr. Singer is its chairman; Mr. Christie last year delivered a speech there titled “The Christie Reform Agenda.”

The pubs are looking for a hero. I doubt they find one, but it makes for good headlines and endless speculation by the media ghouls.

Jaxx has it right, they seek a hero. Since there is too much crazy at all levels of their party it isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Tempted as Christie has to be by all this flattering attention from big money, he seems smart enough to realize that he is getting all this attention not because he's such great presidential material, but because all the so-called stars so greatly touted by right-wing media up to now have all shown themselves to be complete busts when exposed to the public in the Fox "debates."

Being the candidate of last resort probably doesn't exactly make him feel like the sudden attention comes from the Republican Party suddenly discovering that he's such a wonderful candidate, but rather points out to him just how awful the other candidates are.

"Any port in a storm" is not the greatest rallying cry for a presidential candidate, so if I were in his shoes (better get me a map with clearly marked exits if I find myself there), I'd continue with "thanks, but no thanks" until at least 2016. Let them find themselves another patsy to lose against Obama for next year.

This is why I don't like Home Depot and would prefer LOWE"S but there is no Lowe's on the Island and my son has to go to ..he calls it "Home Creepo".

I just bet these bullies with billions would like to see the big bully Christie running the country. Screwing everything in site that didn't have big money attached.

hmmm. while i agree, completely, jaxx, i am not certain what the "that" in "that would mean" is a reference to.

might it be about "breed them better"?

thanks again, jaxx!
