Possible Live Chat for the President's speech 9/8

The chat box will ask for a nickname. You can use any name you want but should keep it fairly short. Those who have long user names are encouraged to use some variation of your forum name so we know who you are but not the entire thing.

Once you have given a nickname and pressed "Login" wait a few seconds. You will likely be presented with a security warning asking whether you want to run a java program. In order to use the chat room, you must allow this to run.

Those with low bandwidth should consider using the no video option.

To clarify things, the video feed is from the White House website. We have no control over this feed whatsoever, and any connection issues you may experience are related to whitehouse.gov, not this forum. If it screws up, in other words, we can't fix it.

As I understand this chat thing, it doesn't matter. We had it set up this way for the SOTU also.
On some computers the video slows things down, so they may want to have the chat up and watch the Pres on tv.

Yes. It's the same chat "room," just different pages, one of which is missing the video feed.

When I set this up originally I was not thinking well about low bandwidth users. I figured you could just stop the video feed if you didn't want it. But, a couple people with dialup had trouble just loading the page, so I set up the other one.

I was thinking that next time we do this we might just forget about the video feed altogether since you can either watching in television or go to the White House page directly and stream that. This would allow us to use our internal chat system, which is friendlier, more secure, and just looks better than the one you'll be using tonight. Those of you who participate tonight should give some feedback on that.

Thanks, Jaxx and Azmouse. I did see the dialogue box, but when I entered my text and hit enter, nothing happened. Don't know if using Safari/Snow Leopard might have had anything to do with it.
