Paul Ryan Signals Willingness To Raise Revenues
Oh boy, is Ryan actually starting to realize that their grand ideology is not working out or is he just trying to get appointed to the supper congress so he can trash the country some more.

Paul Ryan Signals Willingness To Raise Revenues, Shifting Positions Following Downgrade

By Alex Seitz-Wald on Aug 7, 2011 at 12:30 pm
House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) said he is open to revenue increases as part of a deal to reduce the deficit today, seemingly shifting positions from the hardline opposition his party has maintained against revenue growth. Ryan said on Fox News Sunday that he would be open to a deal that containes $3 or $4 in spending cuts for every $1 in revenue increases if it came through a major reform of the tax code and was large enough. Host Chris Wallace asked if Ryan would be open such hypothetical deal if he were sitting on the joint super committee created by the deal to raise the debt ceiling. Ryan responded, “yes”:

WALLACE: If you were on that committee, and you get a deal — let’s say $3 or $4 dollars in spending cuts and entitlement cuts for every $1 in revenue increases, and the revenue increases came from tax reform [...] — would you be open minded to including some of that revenue as part of a debt deal?
RYAN: It all depends on the spending side of the ledger. … If we’re convincingly restructuring these entitlement programs and getting that spending line down to meet that revenue line, then can you have higher revenue growth through more economic growth and tax reform? Yes, the answer is yes.

Sounds like our effort to get around the MSM and
let the nation know Ryan and his tea party cohorts are to blame for this disaster is working.

The headline should have read:

Noticed that. I tried something, see if it helps.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

I wouldn't trust Ryan as far as I could spit into a hurricane!

RE: Paul Ryan Signals Willingness To Raise Revenues
Note the phrasing: "....revenue increase through tax reform..."

That can mean a lot of things, several of which actually amount to tax cuts that adherents of a certain economic theory believe will increase revenues. Reagan's tax cuts were called "reform" and are to this day argued to have increased revenues. The problem that caused the subsequent astronomical increase in the deficit and debt was, according to this point of view, that spending increased at a faster pace than the revenue increases.

To me, this just sounds like Ryan is repeating that idiotic dogma in a different way.

I also see this "reform" as a way to tax "the 50% that pay no taxes". This insane situation we're in, namely the "tax the poor, not the rich" mentality is crazy. The fact that it's even a serious part of the conversation in this country gives me the willies. It also makes me wonder how we're going to resolve such differences peacefully.

True, dat.

I read a blabbering commentator a couple days ago complaining about tax cheats. When I finally dug down far enough to find specifics, I discovered his target was "welfare mothers."

His basic thing was that he wants tax deductions for children removed from the code and for single people to pay the same rate as married couples.

Family values, you see.
