Ologo Nation's largest teachers union endorses Obama re-election
Heads are imploding which means it's Great for our Country!Bounce

>snip<

(CNN) -- A year earlier than usual, the nation's largest teachers union on Monday endorsed President Barack Obama for re-election in 2012.

The National Education Association, which represents 3.2 million teachers and administrators, approved the recommendation from its political action committee at its annual meeting in Chicago.

Obama "shares our vision for a stronger America," NEA President Dennis Van Roekel said in a statement issued by the group. "He has never wavered from talking about the importance of education or his dedication to a vibrant middle class."

Since taking office in 2009, Obama has championed education reform and used stimulus money to help keep teachers employed. Now he is calling for maintaining or increasing spending on education despite negotiating federal budget cuts.

>snip<

Calling a conservative swing in state legislatures and the November 2010 congressional elections "eye-opening," Van Roekel said the nation "cannot sacrifice our students' futures by shortchanging them now."

As you'll see at the link..not all the President has done has made the Teachers happy but they're capable of seeing a bigger picture without devolving into lunacy.

VP Biden spoke to them the day before the vote. Smile

Thanks to chipsticks @ theobamadiary for this news! Wave

Good news. Endorsing him this far out says they know who will do the best for them and the country.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Proof that knowledge is good. I support what the teachers have done in supporting Obama. Thumbsup

Me, too. I'm pleased with the endorsement and never doubted it, but 72% is lighter than I anticipated.

Some history gleemed from another site.

1988 Dukakis got 86%

1992 Clinton got 88%

1996 Clinton got 91%

2000 Gore got 86.5%

2004 Kerry got 86.5%

2008 Obama got 79.8%

2011, Obama got 72%.

So..the remaining 28% want the unknown republicon candidate who won't care anything about their jobs and if like the repub gov in Wisconsin will take away their bargaining rights. Not only their rights but take Medicare, Social Security and our Country down the drain.

That is high for the stupid rate among teachers.

That or they may just not want to make such an early endorsement.... We don't really know what the "disapprove" number was.

RE: Nation's largest teachers union endorses Obama re-election
What's particularly good about this early NEA endorsement is that it looks like the Democrats willl have what has usually been the GOP's chief advantage in national elections - unity and solidarity. I've read that GOp strategists estimate that the Democrats' internal carping and sniping at the candidate cost them at least 1-2 percentage points in presidential elections.
NEA members may not like all the reforms the Obama admin is attempting but they seem well aware of their stake in the 2012 election.
