Why do Republicans have to steal songs by Democrats?
Well, come to think of it, look at songs by their favorite Republican rock star, Ted Nugent: "Cat Scratch Fever," "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang," "Venom Soup," etc. No wonder they have to look to Tom Petty ("I Won't Back Down") or Katrina and the Waves ("Walkin' On Sunshine") for songs they can play at public rallies.

Wingers have no imagination or creativity. Why do you think they always spout the same one or two lines? Surely all of you have noticed that for every topic that comes up all the righties go around spouting a couple of talking points, The EXACT talking points. Jon Stewart has highlighted this phenomenon more than once and it is a bit eerie to watch so many people making the exact same statement, verbatim.
This is their big limitation. They are so dependent on the talking points that are regularly fed to them they are incapable of self-expression.

Somebody (maybe it was on the Daily Show) showed Fox News broadcasts attacking John Kerry in 2004 for being "the most liberal Senator in Congress" and showing a nearly identical one attacking Barack Obama for being the same in 2008. It was a VERY eerie sight to behold.

Ha! So true! Anyone remember the Bruce Springstein 'Born In The USA' debacle with (I think) Reagan's 1984 campaign? NJ's favorite son was not happy about them using his song and made it VERY clear to everyone.

Never fails to amuse me that the Republicans so often pick a song and then have the artist hounding them because the artist doesn't want them to use it!
It's like only liberals can write good rock songs!

Surely you jest!!!!!!!!!
"Cat Scratch Fever" for Michele Bachmann
"Venom Soup" for Newt Gingrich and/or Pat Buchanan (and even Ralph Nader who, though not a Republican, gloated when Al Gore--and the country-- lost in 2000), if they run.
Nugent's songs are PERFECT for Republicans!

There's a very eerie guy I know who does a lot of propaganda work for them. His name is Frank Luntz, and if you ever read David Copperfield (the Dickens book, not the magician), this guy is Uriah Heep.
He comes up with a lot of their talking points. He is HIGHLY paid, and I'm sure that the far right examines their expenditures like anyone else. If something Luntz thought up for them in 2004 seemed to work, rather than hire Luntz for another few million, just substitute "Obama" for "Kerry," save money and recycle.
