The president's major fundraising filing will show a dramatic increase in the number of small donors so far this year compared with 2008. The tally is well over 300,000.

Reporting from Washington— President Obama's next major fundraising filing will show a dramatic increase in the number of small donors so far this year compared with 2008, his campaign said Saturday.

"We had 180,000 contributors at this point in the last campaign; now it's well over 300,000," said spokesman Ben LaBolt in an email previewing the upcoming filing. LaBolt declined to elaborate except to say in his note that the filing will show "small dollar contributors back in greater numbers."

Obama set a high bar in 2008, raising nearly $750 million. Back then, the campaign boasted of the number of small donors who were participating.

His email says the campaign hopes to have 450,000 donors by June 30.

Certain bloggers claim that large donations from Wall Street mean Obama is in the pockets of bankers.
Does the fact that he gets more money in small donations from the people mean that he's rally in the pockets of the people?

That kind of news doesn't help their never ending fundraising so they sit their asshats on it.

I never maxed out my donation limit to one candidate until 2008. Thank goodness I am employed again and hope to be able to do the same this election.

Now the sky's the limit with corporate donors so it is especially heartwarming to read Pres O is yet again attracting small amount donors.

Let's do it again in 2012. Patriot

I know he's got me..a small stipend every month and I'm a member of TeamObama for about 2 months now. It helps with sanity and it's not much but it lets them know there are people out here who are behind them and willing to give what they can.
