Basically, Blanche is upset that her gay brother Clayton wants to marry his boyfriend. She can accept him being gay but can't come to grips with him wanting to "put a ring" on another man's finger.

Sophia asks Blanche "Why did you marry George?"

Blanche answers "We loved each other. We wanted to make a lifetime comitment. We wanted everyone to know."

And Sophia says "That's what Doug and Clayton want too. Everyone wants someone to grow old with and shouldn't everyone have that chance?"

Then Blanche says she thinks she understands now, then Sophia asks Blanche to marry her! lol
