Freepers weigh in on Giffords
I’m upset that she’s drawing a paycheck despite being out of the office for 6 months.

If this woman cared about her constituents, she should resign so that her replacement could be representing them and working for them.

This reminds me of John Stroger in Chicago. They kept his condition under wraps for months until they could work out a strategy to replace him with his son Todd... A time honored Democrat tradition also practiced by Ted Kennedy and Sheets Byrd.

... if she is close friend of Wasserman Schultz, she is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. She should resign and take care of her health and life. I hear she is a nutso eco-maniac and...her husband in my humble opinion is a traitor to NASA, standing by “Dirt Dog” POTUS Obama as he dismantled NASA and layed off hundreds of loyal NASA workers while he destroys the American Space program and weakens our nation!!! As usual, this whole dog and pony show was and is a farce!!!

Wonder if Larry Flint has anything to say.

She was an attractive woman prior to the shooting. It seems like they are protecting the public from some awful truths.

With all the hedging on her condition by Gifford’s chief of staff, it’s highly unlikely that she will make a complete recovery. She will not return to Washington.

It’s the behavior of her party using her tragic circumstances to use her for political purposes at the expense of the citizens of her district.

That was my point: she’s not capable of functioning but the media hypes it as if she is. Meanwhile, voters in that district have no representation. Democrats are evil people.

The poor woman may not even have the ability to know she is a Congresswoman.

But, the DemonRATS will wheel her around like Sarah Brady wheels around Jim.
Wasn’t there an episode of Star Trek like this?
I’m thinking of the Nazi-like planet episode.

She has a better chance than Terri, to be sure, but I fear she’s going to be turned into another James Brady: a posterchild for anti-gunners.

Since she remains unable to do her job as Representative, the right thing would be to have her resign.

So, Giffords is “struggling to communicate,” same as nearly everyone else in congress. Just ask We-e-e-ener, Boehner, Frank, et al.

They're pathetic.

Having read three books in the last week and a half dealing with Nazis, I find I am having a visceral reaction to right-wingers using the term for any reason whatsoever.

The similiarities between the Nazi's and big business and what's going on with the Republicans, religion and big businees is alarming. Anytime you try to bring it up the response is...It could never happen in America......that's exactly what the enlightened Germans were saying before it happened

Read this:

Quote:The wide array of movements that came under the tag of a new “Revolutionary Right” (as opposed to the traditional essentially conservative Right) did not spring only from a narrow social background (the lower middle classes); inspired mainly by fear of the mounting force of the organized Left on the one hand and of the brutal and unaccountable ups and downs of unrestrained capitalism on the other, the social background of the New Right was wider and extended to parts of a disenchanted working class as well as to the upper middle classes and to elements of the former aristocracy. It expressed violent opposition to liberalism ... to social democracy and mainly to Marxism ... as well as to conservative policies of compromise with the democratic status quo. . ."

The only thing I edited out are bits that would be nation specific.

This, imo, is the so-called Tea Party in a nutshell, yet it is an analysis of not just Nazism but the interrelationship between it and the hard-right movements that took over much of Europe in the 1930s. The leaders had their own goals, but they came to power on the backs of the lower classes through exploitation of their fear of "others," opposition to the politics of compromise and communal solutions that at least attempt to benefit all segments of society, and disdain for genuine democratic principles.

I believe I'm starting to come full circle in this. The comparison of the modern-day Republican party to Nazis is often criticized, and rightly so, for being exaggerated beyond all proportion. I still tend to agree with that because people do throw around the word "Nazi" and "fascist" without actually understanding what those words truly mean (and without understanding the differences between them). However, there was far more to Nazi, hard-right, and totalitarian rule in general than the genocidal extermination programs that these concepts immediately evoke, and that's where the trap is. If one uses the terms "Nazi" or "fascist" too loosely, critics can dismiss the comparison for lack of relevance and by presenting a "how dare you" attitude for comparing good, hard working Americans to people from a black and white past who up millions and slaughtered them or looked away as it happened. What is missed in these comparisons and subsequent dismissals is that extermination was an end-game and to some extent ad hoc. What led there was an ignorant acceptance of the Big Lie that made them all feel better about themselves and not notice as megalomaniacal ideologues took total control of their lives.

Indeed. I need to include a warning label in the future - post may induce vomiting.

Pretty pathetic little creatures. I can't imagine being jealous of a person shot in the head just because they are getting the sympathy they deserve - Democrat or Republican. I guess attempting to make it so someone wants to shoot them in the head is their goal, how childish can a human being get without returning to the womb?

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

I can barely remember when Freeps used to be just the ugly fringe of the Republican Party. Now they're the base.

I almost didn't look because Gabby is a personal friend. They certainly lived up to my expectations.
