Uht Oh. Weiner has allegedly been driving an unregistered car.
Sorry to be adding yet another AW thread, but...

Quote:Lying about sexting apparently isn't Rep. Anthony Weiner's only gray area.

When Weiner (D-Queens, Brooklyn) was photographed by the Daily News fleeing the Capitol in his Nissan Pathfinder, it was clear the July 2007 registration sticker in his window was expired, and there was no inspection sticker to be seen. Weiner, through a staffer, said the 1988 Nissan Pathfinder was registered in New York State.

Not so, said the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

The New York license plate bolted on Weiner's Pathfinder - US Congress 9 - had expired as of 2006, according to the DMV.

I don't know how reliable this news source is (it appears to be very rw slanted), but things just seem to be going from very bad to worse for Weiner, if true.

The Daily News is a right-wing rag that lacks the journalistic integrity of the National Enquirer.

That said, Congresspeople do this sort of thing all the time. (Well, I should say OK Congressmen have done it all the time.) When they're being targeted, it comes up. Otherwise, no one notices. So, I don't doubt it, but it's not the deal they will now make it out to be.

I've seen that happen among state legislators here in Maine too. Believe it or not, many just don't realize that those red(for senate) and blue(for house) plates do not mean that they don't have to continue to register their pre-legislature plates.

Usually, party leaders on both sides of the aisle make a point to make this clear to their freshmen members, but every term there are always a few who somehow fail to get the memo. One session about 10 yrs ago, the Republican (then minority leader) forgot to inform his peeps about this. The ensuing fear and chaos among them was pretty funny.

I also heard that Weiner has some overdue library books. Surely this calls for an impeachment.

I just can't figure out why politicians think they're above the law! (whime moan groan)

Maybe because people don't insist that they follow even the most basic law, like getting stickers on your car. My son walked for two weeks because he couldn't afford to get the renewal. I'll be sure and tell him he should just run for office so he doesn't have to worry about any laws at all anymore.

This is what we do here now?

I put up a thread about bickering over Gulf oil spill money. And another one about how bad the stock market crash between 2007 and 2009 really was. You could go resurrect one of those.

And just stop posting in these threads and let them die. I only did because it annoyse the piss out of me when Congress gets passes other people wouldn't think of getting. It's no reason for anybody to resign. I hope the critters are all busy checking their registration tonight though.

Not excusing them at all, but I know that at least some of them are genuinely forgetful about it because the rules they go by with their government plates, stickers, etc. are actually more strict than what they're used to from being private citizens. I know, for example, it's that way for OK reps, which is one reason they all seem to do this now and again.

Still, you're right. I honest to gopod had a cop pull a gun on me after pulling me over for an expired inspection sticker. He said, to the judge when I made an issue of this in court, that I was "evading" and acting suspicious. What actually happened was that I passed him going the other way, had no idea he'd done a 180 in the middle of the street, and by the time he caught up to me and flashed his lights, I had made the two turns necessary to get to the grocery store parking lot where I was headed.

Fucker screamed in behind me, got his gun out, pointed down, then slammed me up against my vehicle and searched me when I just stood there freaked right the hell out. I'm glad I can hold my temper because when he told me why he was pulling me over, I wanted to hit him ... really, really hard. With a bat. Or maybe a tractor.

Judge threw out the charge and reprimanded the officer though, so I felt better. I had witnesses in the parking lot I brought to court with me.

The hell of it is this all happened TWO WEEKS before the law took effect that removed the requirement for an inspection sticker, which is why I didn't have one. I wasn't paying the damn fee for something I wouldn't need the following month.

Jeez, y'all, Weiner has how much staff people that can take care of this sort of thing?

The rest of us manage to do so even when we have zero staffers.

This is exactly the kind of thing that really angers the public. This guy is just too stupid--or too arrogant--to be in office.

lol - the media is doing it's best to feed the outrage machine. Which is what they do. Why? Because people who can't think for themselves rely on the media to tell them how to react. Our society is rather sad in this aspect. I was just looking at two headlines about retail sales. One was a flashy one that said shoppers "slammed on brakes" in May. You can bet that got more hits than the one that said "Wall street rallies after retail sales report." It turns out the sales were down due to uncontrollable issues like the Japanese earthquake that caused a lack of vehicles for people to buy. Discounting the automotive sector, sales were up 0.3%!!!! So, the first headline was likely thrown out there without ANY analysis. The age of the internet - stupid sells. Banghead
