Pawlenty calls for tax cuts and smaller government role in economic address

CHICAGO — Former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty ® offered what he called a dramatic alternative to President Obama’s “big government and heavy-handed regulations” in an economic address at the University of Chicago on Tuesday morning.

Speaking at one of the world’s foremost centers of free-market thought — and just a few miles from the offices of Obama’s reelection campaign — Pawlenty, who began his presidential campaign last month, proposed deep cuts to taxes and spending and a wholesale revision of federal regulations to “turbocharge” the economy to a level of growth not seen since the presidencies of Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan.

<..> “The Post Office, the Government Printing Office, Amtrak, Fannie and Freddie were all built for a time in our country when the private sector did not adequately provide those products,” he said. “That’s no longer the case.”

Pawlenty proposed slashing the corporate income tax from 35 percent to 15 percent and establishing just two individual tax rates: 10 percent for the first $50,000 of income ($100,000 for married couples) and 25 percent for all income above that. The result would be a one-third cut in the bottom rate and a 28 percent cut in the top rate.

Of course he does.

He's trying to get someone to notice him. Standard Republican strategy for getting noticed is to call for a tax cut.

Or drive around in a big, absurd looking bus apparently.

Just where do they think the money will come from? I can't believe that people really think this stuff makes sense. Voting for the pubs would be like voting for the local serial killer.....they hide in plain sight.

Ezra Klein was succinct in his assessment of T-Paw's proposal: It's a joke.

What needs to be done is pin Pawlenty down and make him explain how he is going to pay for his giveaway to the ultra-wealthy.

RE: Pawlenty calls for tax cuts...
Fucking ignorant morons can't keep destroying this nation in a lame attempt to get elected, can they?

Telling people they have to be diligent in their own finances, while simultaneously getting good government services without paying for them, is sheer stupidity.

Trying to break our nation for political gain is tantamount to starting a bloodless revolution of sorts - it's not going to stay bloodless for long if they keep it up.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous
