A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the man accused of attempting to assassinate Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) in January and killing six other people in the process is too mentally ill to stand trial — at least for now.

The hearing for shooting suspect Jared Loughner in Tucson federal court also produced some unexpected drama Wednesday after an outburst from the defendant led to him being ejected by federal marshals, press reports said.

He's too mentally ill to stand trial for killing people, but he's not too mentally ill to legally buy a gun he used to kill people.

IIRC, he violated no gun laws before the shooting. So every time a gun type brings up the "law abiding citizen" stuff, I tell them "Jared Loughner was a law abiding gun owner".

Oh, a jury would probably find him sane, now and then, because that's just how competent the supposed sane people in this country are.

He was competent enough to keep his mouth shut when he was arrested. Competent enough to stalk and make plans. He seems to be a radical rightwing nutcase....they are walking all around us.

Loughner seems to think he killed Giffords. I don't know if anyone tried to tell him she's alive and honestly I'd rather he didn't know.
He is one sick SOB. As long as he is never a free man, I don't care if he stays in a mental hospital or jail.
