He might just be the most rightwing of the real candidates out there, but he's damn smart about it and they seem to love him in Indiana.

Our worst nightmare is a wingnut who doesn't come across as a scary wingnut.

Well on the plus side the primaries tend to be dominated by the party crazies so I doubt he is "bold" enough for the likes of the tea baggers.

Romney has probably already been putting together negative ads about him. He's most likely waiting for all of them to destroy each other (ala Newt) then make his play like Calvin Borel on Mine That Bird.

No, he's a boring policy wonk, too short, and, unfortunately, his wife isn't sure if she wants to go through all that because her issues with her husband will certainly be brought into the discussion..

It will be Mittens.

I heard that his wife was really anti-politics as well. Hates it. Not sure if it's a good idea to run for President if your family is not behind you 100%.

Probably too early to definitely call Mittens, but if Daniels' wife is dead set against a run, that could stop him.

(Truth to tell, I would prefer Mittens to their asshole wing-- electing a president really shouldn't be a joke.)

I agree.

I also think we underestimate the difficulty of a general campaign against one of these fools. It's not that Obama wouldn't be the likely victory in these match-ups. It's that it creates an atmosphere that doesn't allow *any* serious discussion of real issues to be discussed during the campaign. Obama couldn't really ignore all the insanity. That Democratic strategy has proved to be a failure time and time again. So, it's a complete sewer.

At the very least, a serious candidate makes for a more serious campaign.

And, as DFW stated in the post below, Daniels got his ass kicked by a door.

At his gym.

That has to be one tough gym; MMA guys must train there if even inanimate objects can kick the ass of the members.

Isn't Daniels the one whose wife left him, married another man, and then returned to him several years later?
If so, that won't play well with the 'family values' crowd.

Many think his family issues are paltry next to what makes news these days.

Like Reagan's divorces didn't play so well? The "family values" crowd can be very forgiving when it suits them.

Daniels was nothing a wooden door couldn't handle.

Now the Republicans have a big task on their hands. Look for the price of coffee and firecrackers to go up in the next year as supplies get very tight. How else are Republicans going to make sure their candidates' speeches are louder than the snoring from the audience?
