We talked the other day about the absurdities of Sunday show guest lists, especially the lineups from this past weekend. It was heartening to see Rachel Maddow agree.

For those of you who can’t watch video clips from your work computers, Rachel said, “I will admit right off the bat this is petty. I’ll admit it. But it is also true and it has got to drive Democrats in the White House absolutely nuts.”

“Here it is: Republican Senator Dick Lugar; Republican former presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani; Republican former Congressman Tom Davis; the Bush administration’s CIA director, General Michael Hayden; the Bush administration’s secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice; the Bush administration’s homeland security secretary, Michael Chertoff; the Bush administration’s defense secretary, Donald Rumsfeld; the Bush administration’s vice president, Dick Cheney; the Bush administration’s vice president’s daughter, Liz Cheney — the week the Obama administration announces it has killed Osama bin Laden, that’s the guest list on the Sunday morning political talk shows to talk about it.

“The Sunday shows are supposedly the apex of political debate — the pulsing, throbbing heart of what’s going on in American politics. Is the biggest story in American politics right now retirees from the Bush administration and how they feel about stuff? Plus, Dick Lugar?

“Honestly, this is the roster? This is Sunday morning in all of its thundering seriousness?

“Now, among those nine Bush administration officials and other Republican politicians, there were three outliers: Senator John Kerry, also a former White House communications director named Anita Dunn, and one current White House official Tom Donilon, the national security adviser. So, there were those three.

“But the week the Obama administration announces that bin Laden is dead, the invitees to the adult’s table, the measure of serious and importance in Washington is three-to-one, Bush administration and Republican officials. Why is that?”

It struck me as a good question. It need not be rhetorical.

I saw this segment on Rachel's show, and am so glad she spoke up. Of course, the other "newsies" will probably tell her again to knock it off.

No, maybe they should start doing what Rachel does -- report the news, not manipulate it!

I figured it would be this way when I found myself wondering who Meet The Press had on Sunday after President Obama got bin laden. Absolute proof that the insane liars own cable pundit shit in the USA.

The excuse used to be that there were more Republican guests because a Republican was in the White House. What's their excuse now? Let them explain themselves publicly.

I remember wondering about that. However, when we got a Democrat in the WH I quickly realized that to the majority of the talking heads on tv, the "default" political party is the GOP. Always. President Obama would accomplish something -- anything -- and the reaction would be "How does this affect the Republicans? How does this affect [insert name of a candidate or officeholder] chances of re-election? How does this affect GOP policies in the Congress?"

I've given up on most of the so-called newscasters.

The 60 Minutes interview was terrific. I missed a chunk of the beginning on tv, so I went online and watched the whole thing there.

Yes, it was great tv and it was real..and, as I linked up thread it actually Boosted CBS 60 minutes ratings to # UNO Sunday night with 13.8 Million Viewers..that's almost 14 Million. Wonder how many the forced on us gop shows got?

There can be good reasons for the imbalance. Nobody expects the networks to coordinate so we have a 50-50 split every Sunday.

The disturbing part is the nature of the guests, the timing, and the topic. It's ridiculous to drudge up old Bush officials when I assume you can get people from within the administration who can actually talk about what happened.

This was a Sunday that a disproportionate amount of PBO officials would have been appropriate. We got just the opposite.

This state of affairs within the media is infuriating. I wonder if there is any hope at all of bringing back the Fairness Doctrine? I doubt it would 'cure' the problem entirely, but it'd be a step in the right direction I think.

Something I've been freaking out about for 9 years and it's only getting worse.

That's what they've been doing since 1999 that I know of..just because there's an amazing Democratic President in Office is no reason for corporatemedia ugly breath dragon monsters to have representatives of his Admin briefing the American People on what's happening.. they trot out the war criminals who pimp torture and want to gut medicare and Social Security. But, hey maybe at least the old standby John McCain will get to drive home his latest thoughts on "torture didn't get bin laden".

They probably thought those ratings were an aberration. And they were, in a way. The aberration is that a national news program actually had the Democratic President of the United States on the TV machine. I hate those mo fo's!
