DCCC chair Steve Israel: Vote today on Paul Ryan proposal will cost GOP the House
Quote:The House vote today that’s expected to pass Paul Ryan’s proposal to end Medicare as we know it will be looked back on as the day the GOP lost the House, DCCC chair Steve Israel vowed to me in an interview moments ago.

“When we win back the majority, people will look back at this vote as a defining one that secured the majority for Democrats,” Israel said.

Israel said that Dems plan to use the Medicare vote today to go on the offensive against Republicans from now all the way until Election Day 2012. Crucially, Israel said it would be used in every district, even ones that are marginal or conservative — suggesting that on Medicare at least, Dems are hoping to maintain a united national front, rather than letting the messsage be watered down in conservative districts that may be more receptive to GOP messages about fiscal conservatism.

“All the polling tells us the same thing,” Israel said. “Voting to terminate Medicare is a bad idea politically in every district.. Republicans oppose it. Democrats oppose it. And Independents oppose it.”

After you posted this...
I wanted to read more. I found some more quotes from the DCCC chair here:

Quote: “Well all we have to do is use the ad Republicans used against Democrats,” he said. “They ran these ads saying I'm going to come to Washington to protect Medicare and we're going to remind the American people they lied about us, all we have to do is tell the truth about them. And the truth is in today's vote to terminate the Medicare guaranteed benefit. All we have to do is tell the truth and we'll win the House back.”

Did the Republicans really say they were going to Washington to protect Medicare? LOL! I must not have been paying attention at the time.Big Grin

Yeah, that rings a bell..some dimbulb at a Con "think" tank must have thought it would be a good way to scare people. And, then once they "won" the election..oh btw, we're the ones you have to watch gutting Medicare.

Most Republicans in 2010 ran on a platform with two planks. 1) Repealing or blocking "Obamacare" and 2) Job creation, which they often tied to the health care law.

A big piece of the campaign against Obamacare was the charge that it would either end Medicare or severely reduce benefits.

Most campaigns were targeted toward seniors or soon-to-be seniors. That's who votes in mid-terms.

So Paul Ryan's big scam on playing "an accountant", while voting for all the bush proposals, including two wars, tax cuts for donors, and drugs without paying for them.. but wanting to gut Medicare so they can give more tax cuts to the Kochs isn't going over so fantastically well even in his own District? Think

I'll believe it when I see it. The Dems never call the GOPers liars. They're just too polite to do that. God, I hope I'm wrong this time.
