"Equal Pay Day" today highlights gender wage gap

April 12, 2011 is the date this year that symbolizes how far into 2011 women must work -- on average -- to earn what men earned in 2010.

Equal Pay Day was started in 1996 by the National Committee on Pay Equity to publicize the gap between men's and women's wages.

The Institute for Women's Policy Research said that women have lower median earnings than men in 107 out of 111 occupations, regardless of levels of education.
