Relevant Book for today's Democratic Party
I know this should go in the Books forum, however; I think that it is relevant to what we are experiencing with the Joan Walshe's and others like her. Karl Popper wrote this at the end of WWII and I have to say it applies to what we are experiencing. I have checked the book out at my local library, if you can check it out and read the book. We have an internal battle that we must win.
Let's educate ourselves with the wisdom of those that came before us and not repeat mistakes that cost them dearly. This book was noted by someone on "Angry Black Lady Chronicles" from the poster <snip> Karl Popper’s Paradox of Tolerance, one of the most profound things I’ve ever read, and it was in a footnote in his book The Open Society and Its Enemies, written in the final days of WWII. Here’s an excerpt: “Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. — In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be unwise. But we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols. We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant.” <snip> “One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” “Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.” Plato |
