On CSpan this morning, I've been watching the republicans continually trying to frame this as an issue in which we are being fiscally irresponsible by not going along w/their my-way-or-the-highway approach. Our side of the aisle rebuttals have been excellent, pointing out the far right social agenda that the republicans have attached to this budget battle.
However the republicans continue to dodge this fact by playing to the fears of the less informed general public (US military personnel may not be paid in a timely fashion, people may go w/out SS checks ect). All of this while pretending that their refusal to budge on non-generic social issues has nothing to do with the matter. They keep hammering on the 'spending' issue (as if they had nothing to do w/ the defiicit ( btw).
I fear that how the MSM media plays this story will have a crucial impact on what the average American understands regarding who is to blame if a government shutdown does occur. It is frciken aggravating, to have to rely on them (of all people) to explain to the civically-challenged general public what is really going on here.
