First Republican presidential debate postponed
First Republican presidential debate postponed

(Reuters) - The first scheduled debate of the 2012 Republican presidential nominating race has been postponed from May until September because of a lack of candidates.

The debate at the Ronald Reagan presidential library in California will move to September 14 from May 2 to allow more time for Republicans to enter the race for the right to challenge Democratic President Barack Obama in 2012.

<..> Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, potential candidates who have television and other side projects, have little incentive to make quick decisions given their high name recognition. A formal declaration would force them to end their paid punditry.

Heartbreaking. They'll have to come out of the woodwork soon.....and did you notice....Bachmann and Trump not mentioned at all?

RE: First Republican presidential debate postponed
To quote Joe Klein:

Quote:This is my 10th presidential campaign, Lord help me. I have never before seen such a bunch of vile, desperate-to-please, shameless, embarrassing losers coagulated under a single party's banner. They are the most compelling argument I've seen against American exceptionalism. Even Tim Pawlenty, a decent governor, can't let a day go by without some bilious nonsense escaping his lizard brain. And, as Greg Sargent makes clear, Mitt Romney has wandered a long way from courage. There are those who say, cynically, if this is the dim-witted freak show the Republicans want to present in 2012, so be it. I disagree. One of them could get elected. You never know. Mick Huckabee, the front-runner if you can believe it, might have to negotiate a trade agreement, or a defense treaty, with the Indonesian President some day. Newt might have to discuss very delicate matters of national security with the President of Pakistan. And so I plead, as an unflinching American patriot--please Mitch Daniels, please Jeb Bush, please run. I may not agree with you on most things, but I respect you. And you seem to respect yourselves enough not to behave like public clowns.

Please, in the name of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt, run.

I genuinely think there's a strategy here of sorts, a strategy being implemented by more traditional Republicans. And I don' t think anyone who has announced will get the nomination. If I'm close to correct, what they're doing is letting these asshats take the fire, let them show what nuts they are, let that get out there and just really sink deep into Americans' psyche in a way it didn't prior to 2010, and then come out with guns blazing as the "reasonable" candidate.

Jeb Bush would clean up.

The real evil behind the party of hate - people like Karl Rove - are just sitting back and taking pot-shots at Democrats and even the crew of nitwit Republicans current "running" for the Presidency. They probably already know who their nominee is going to be - no need to get their candidate caught up in the distraction game the Fox folks are currently playing.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Exactly.

This sideshow actually benefits them in the long run in various ways, not the least of which is the marketing value of bringing in a "solid" conservative who will be shown to poll well against Obama and who has not been down in the mud with these guys. I also suspect this is part of the reason some of the candidates we are hearing about now aren't actually committing to their candidacy. They want to be part of that group that rides in at the last moment to save the day.

The Republican op-eds on this are going to be masterfully vomit-inducing.

Right on all counts. It'll be disgusting. Although I still think Huntsman has the best chance.

RE: First Republican presidential debate postponed
This has to be the funniest scene in presidential politics in the last sixty years.

The GOPers can't find anyone who can win both the primaries and a general election. What a shame! Big Grin

I might be a little worried if we didn't have an incumbent Democratic president.

Right now I'm lovin' it.

Lack of candidates? Are they waiting for Virginia Fox? Or maybe they're wooing Elisabeth Hasselbeck. I would think they would be afraid of who will throw their hair piece in next.

RE: First Republican presidential debate postponed
as many of you have speculated here, we were talking just yesterday about the likelihood that these so-called candidates are actually a feint, as in " ... to distract attention from the point one really intends to attack (from)."

we were especially talking about Huntsman, too. hmmm ...

very interesting article on this, and on his being Mormon as a potential obstacle:

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/world/b...61989.html

this bit is important:

"His move toward a run was evident on (this last) Tuesday, when it was revealed Horizon PAC _ the political organization put together by his supporters _ has reportedly hired two New Hampshire veteran operatives to head activities in the key primary state."

***

those others certainly are diverting. they can easily give us a false sense of security.

thank you for posting this, jaxx!
