Sorry GOP: Tax revenue need to go up
Quote:NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The United States has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

That is the persistent Republican mantra whenever the question of how to reduce deficits comes up. The party line: Cut spending, and under no circumstances raise taxes.

The GOP is right about one thing: The country is spending more than it can afford. And economists on the left and right generally agree that big tax increases can hurt economic growth. (Fix budget before a crisis)

But there is abundant evidence showing that taxes must be part of debt reduction, however distasteful the GOP finds them.

Why? Because the looming debt problem is just too big. And reducing it by spending cuts alone would require draconian changes that could hurt the economy far more than a mix of spending cuts and tax increases.

Here's one way to conceive of just how big the problem is.

If lawmakers wanted to permanently freeze the debt held by the public at the today's level -- 62% of GDP -- they would need to immediately cut spending by 35% or about $1.2 trillion, according to the Government Accountability Office. And those cuts would need to be permanent from hereon out.

How hard would that be?

You can read the whole article here:

Republicans are all on one wave length these days, and everything they do is aimed at one thing, making sure things are not doing well in 2012 so they can try and blame everything "bad" on president Obama!

All the BS they throw out to the media is simply that BS! They know their base of teabaggers and Obama haters will eat it up and buy whatever it is they say, but facts speak louder than lies, that is if the democrats can get the facts out there, and keep the "FACTS" front and center.

Sure it won't change the republican base's view, or their votes, but it's not the republican base that they need to be reaching, it's the independents, and even moderate republicans the need to be reaching with the facts!

I think there is a whole lot of buyers remorse these days from those who voted for republicans in 2010, and even those on the left who failed to vote at all! Getting the facts out and keep them front and center should be the goal from now till election time in 2012!

Yep, but I am willing to bet that the republicans in D.C. won't do a thing when it comes to taking on this issue!

For some reason they are on a course to destroy everything they can, from the state levels on up to the national level! The don't seem to think that the american people, at least most of the, are not happy about what they are doing, and they keep saying they are doing the "will of the people"! The only "people" they are doing things for are the super rich and the "corporations"!

Now I am sure the "rich" really appreciate all the republicans are doing for them, but I am willing to bet that appreciation isn't going to help them when the people get mad enough like they have in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan and around the country! People like Walker may be the "darling" of the party right now, but once the rich have what they want, well lets just say Walker better watch his back because he is going to get thrown under the bus sooner or later by those he is catering to right now!

It's pretty messed up. If you were to believe/support their position you have to believe that the nation needs to make great sacrifices to balance the budget but the wealthy elite are too delicate and need to be protected from those sacrifices.

But, that would take precious money from their campaign donors and the gopropagandists need that large infusion of cash to keep spreading their Lies over the internet(who doesn't go to a link and see some stupid anti-Obama shite?), on tv punditheadery, and anywhere else they can(our Midweek Aloha paper has a column by pat buchanan for crissake)?

I think this will be a big issue in 2012, and after what has happened in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan and other states with the republican governors taking from the elderly, the poor, veterans and children to pay for tax cuts for corporations and the rich, anyone trying to say "not taxes", or extend the "tax cuts" for the rich will be cutting their own throats!

Democrats can use this to their advantage, big time, and if they bring up all the examples of what republicans have done at the state level, it will be very hard for any republican to look credible if they defend taking from the poor to give to the rich!
