Republican Senators Demand Obama Take Lead on Entitlement Cuts
Almost two-dozen Republican senators are threatening to oppose increasing the U.S. debt limit unless President Barack Obama leads efforts to begin cutting government entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security.

The 22 lawmakers, in a letter today to Obama, demanded he work out an agreement similar to the 1983 deal between President Ronald Reagan and then-House Speaker Tip O’Neill, a Massachusetts Democrat, that shored up the Social Security trust fund.

“A similar show of leadership from you and from congressional leaders of both parties is necessary to address the long-term fiscal challenges facing our country,” the letter said. “Without action to begin addressing the deficit, it will be difficult, if not impossible, for us to support a further increase in the debt ceiling.”

I hope the President tells them to go fuck themselves. In Presidential-sounding words, of course. Big Grin

RE: Republican Senators Demand Obama Take Lead on Entitlement Cuts
Harry Reid already said in no uncertain terms that S.S. is off the table, has told Mr. Obama that, and he will kill any efforts to change it.

S.S. is solvent for the next thirty years, if nothing is done. Like Harry said, in twenty years they can re-visit the numbers, and still have ten years to come up with a workable solution. Even then, it would be a tweak, not an overhaul.

S.S. DOES NOT IMPACT THE DEFICIT IN ANY WAY.

There is no pressing need, other than the Republicans drooling to hand that money over to Wall Street, to do anything right now.

Screw the republiCon Senators who want those on Social Security and Medicare to suffer while their campaign donors don't pay their fair share of taxes.

Let the Middle Class take note of this for 2012..if the recons take over the Senate you will suffer monetarily while the republicon campaign donors enjoy trickling on everyone else.

Harry Reid says he'll look at this in 20 years
Harry's having none of this bullcrap.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

RE: Republican Senators Demand Obama Take Lead on Entitlement Cuts
Of course they want "HIM" to take the lead. Then they can come back next year and say it was all president Obama's idea, not theirs!

Everything these idiots are doing has one goal, to make sure president Obama does NOT get re-elected!

He needs to tell them they ran because they promised "JOBS" and "IDEAS" to get us out of the mess that Bush and the republicans got us into. It is "THEIR" job to to do what they promised, not act like children and keep on avoiding the "REAL" problems we have. SS is not one of those problems at the moment, jobs are along with doing what is right for the country and the people of this country.

All they are doing so far is the will of the rich and the corporations, and he should tell them that is not an opinion any longer!
