Can Michigan Democrats leverage their position?
The Snyder budget is awful, but it's in trouble even with some Republicans mainly because of the proposed taxing of pensions.
So why not propose something like Democratic support if, say, the Earned Income Tax Credit for the working poor is spared? It's probably the most draconian part of the whole thing and the $350 million could probably be made up elsewhere. It's going to be bad regardless, I just wonder if this opening can be leveraged to make it a bit better? The GOP has big majorities in both chambers, so it's going to require swallowing hard if we're going to have any influence. |
