Apparently it's illegal to lie on a Canadian news broadcast:

Canada regulators announced last week they would reject efforts by Canada's right wing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to repeal a law that forbids lying on broadcast news.

Canada's Radio Act requires that "a licenser may not broadcast....any false or misleading news." The provision has kept Fox News and right wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the "Fairness Doctrine" in 1987.

Just another reason to emigrate—as if Lake Louise, Sunshine Village, and Panorama weren't reasons enough.

Too Bad we don't have this in place.

May I just say "fuck Stephen Harper" for trying to dirty the Canadian Airwaves. That should tell Canadians what kind of man and Prime Minister he is.

Geez, I wish we had a law like that here!

Don't get me wrong; I'm a huge fan of the 1st Amendment! But presenting lies as if they are the cold, hard news of the day is about as disingenuous as it gets. If someone wants to spout opinion, fine. I can listen or not as I choose. But it should be identified as opinion (and in the case of Faux Snooze, lies they pull out of their backsides), and not as something that is actual fact.

That's one of the things I do not like about what this country is up to these days!

Fox (NewsCorp) actually has the distinction of taking the principle that no News Broadcast is "Obligated to tell the truth" all the way to the Appelate level Court, where they prevailed. Seriously. Google it.
