Liberals to stage Tea Party-like revolts against GOP spending cuts
Democratic strategists believe their Tea Party moment has arrived.

Quote:Working with labor unions and liberal groups, they are using the Presidents Day congressional recess to organize a public backlash against billions of dollars in cuts to federal programs.

One labor organizer said that members have been urged to attend congressional town hall meetings to ask Republican lawmakers “pointed questions” about the cuts they supported last week.

“We are targeting various House Republicans in town hall meetings during the recess to let them know these budget cuts are beyond the pale,” said the labor source, who added that it has been difficult to mobilize supporters to public question-and-answer sessions with lawmakers because “they’ve been pretty circumspect in giving out information about the meetings.”

Justin Ruben, the executive director of MoveOn.org, a progressive advocacy group, has also encouraged members to grill lawmakers at town hall meetings.

Man, I sure as hell hope NOT!!!

Can't anyone come up with a term that does NOT call a similarity to the Teahadists?

The last thing I want to see is a bunch of Democrats screaming and shouting a bunch of incoherent and untruthful nonsense they learned from Fox.

I'm all for Liberals staging protests. What I would hate to see is to see them degenerate into the kind of frothing at the mouth seen at the so-called Tea Party rallies. ANYTHING but that. While I'm all for numbers and enthusiasm, I hope our rallies display some truth, some common sense, some decency and some demonstration of understanding of the issues at hand: everything the Tea Party events lacked!

Don't like the term.

Do you honestly think liberals could possibly look like the morans on the other side?

No. It's not possible.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Oh yes it is, and I have seen the foaming at the mouth and stretched veins of the asshole wing of the left with my own eyes. Even saw a fistfight.

(And that was at a Democratic county meeting-- not even at a Mumia rally.)

Not often, of course, but enough to worry that should we become teabaggers of the left, the asshole wing will be more prominent and embarrassing.

I want them to be forceful and challenging, but not tea party screaming hysterical

Based on my reading of the article, the term was either introduced by an editor or to those interviewed in the context of a comparison.

I don't see any of the liberal strategists accepting the term "tea party-like" revolts in this. Rather, I see an editorial association of liberals to tea-party activists, which is convenient given how tarnished the tea-party brand has become.

Might not be all bad to have a liberal "Tea Party". The term "Tea Party" is established, well known, and the media is fascinated with it. If we come up with a liberal iteration of the "Tea Party", then "Tea Party" will just be a generic term for political activists. The GOP loses a lot of whatever juice the "Tea Party" brand was giving them if it's no longer only associated with the right. It's an established brand, horn in on it.

My two cents.

There's a 180 distinction between teabaggers and Democracy in Action as in Wisconsin. The first and foremost being.. Democracy is based on FACTS and teabagging is based on beck-koch blubbering lies.

I don't want to be anywhere near the term teabagger party because they've disgraced it all the way to hypocrisy hell.

Ecstatic to read Liberals/Progressives are taking to the streets..I did some of that action myself before bush bombed Iraq.
