Rahm Emanuel Wins Race for Chicago Mayor

The results are still coming in, but CNN has called the race. Former congressman and former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is the projected winner of the race to be mayor of Chicago.

With 86 percent of precincts counted, Emanuel had won 54.9 percent to 24.3 percent for City Clerk Gery Chico, his next closest competitor.

Emanuel needs a final result of more than 50 percent to forestall a runoff election in April.

"Thank you Chicago! Your hard work & support got us here. Looking forward to working together as your next mayor," Emanuel tweeted around ten minutes after 9 p.m. Eastern.

Chico was the only one running negative ads on TV. I would have hated for that to have worked.
