Missouri Senate Race Update
Today, Jo Ann Emerson announced that she will not seek the Republican nomination in Missouri's 2012 Senate race. Claire McCaskill is the Democrat up for re-election.
In 2010, Roy Blunt beat Robin Carnahan 54-40. U.S. Senate Race Missouri 2010 According to Dave Catanese at Politico, the only Republicans to enter the race thusfar are Sarah Steelman, former state treasurer, and Ed Martin, who ran against Russ Carnahan this year in MO-3. Politico I worked in Missouri this past cycle as a field organizer for Tommy Sowers, who ran against Jo Ann Emerson. I am surprised that she chose not to run. She has always won handily, and has been in the House for 7 cycles. I think she would have done favorably against McCaskill. Of course, I am hoping McCaskill wins re-election. While it is still very early, the fact that Former Senator Jim Talent and Jo Ann Emerson have chosen not to run sounds like great news for McCaskill. Sarah Steelman and Ed Martin do not have the state wide clout that Emerson, Talent, or Blunt had. However, if 2010 is any indication, Missouri is increasingly going red. I would hate to see some the craziest Republican win the senate race against McCaskill. Missouri voted for Republicans basically down-ballot this year. Democrats had huge losses in the state. Basically, with Emerson not running, we could have a super crazy Republican in the Senate from Missouri. Just look at Billy Long in MO-7. McCaskill needs our help. Keep your eyes on Missouri. |
