More evidence that, Yes, Boss Hawg IS running in 2012. Yee Haw!
This is really going to be interesting:

Quote:Barbour Halfway to a Presidential Bid?

A year ago, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour ® gave a clue for people wondering if he was going to run for president: "If you see me losing 40 pounds that means I'm either running or have cancer."

So Jill Lawrence followed up and asked a Barbour adviser how he looks these days: "He has lost some weight. He hasn't lost 40 pounds. He might be halfway there. So read into that what you will."

The newest "Republican running for POTUS" sign is this trip - no, not Iowa:

Quote:Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour will head to Israel this Saturday, making him the third potential GOP presidential candidate to visit the country in recent weeks.

The Republican Jewish Coalition announced this week that it would host Barbour from February 5-9, JTA.org reports. The coalition also hosted him in 1994, when he was RNC Chair.

Well, this makes it pretty clear:

Quote:Gov. Haley Barbour adviser: ‘He’s running until he says he’s not’

It seems a source close to Mississippi governor Haley Barbour is willing to confirm that the Republican governor is preparing for a run for president.

CNN reports that a source close to the Republican confirms that Mr. Barbour has “shifted gears” as he prepares for a potential run for president.

“We have definitely shifted gears, there is no question about that,” the source said. “He’s running until he says he’s not.”

The comment follows a trip by Mr. Barbour to Israel, the third potential presidential candidate to visit the nation. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee have also traveled to Israel in recent weeks. Both are considered likely contenders in the upcoming 2012 campaign.

Mr. Barbour continues to ramp up preparations for what is seemingly a political campaign. The Mississippi Republican has traveled to South Carolina, an early primary states, twice in the past month. He has also noted his interest in a run saying he is “seriously considering running.”

OMG - this is going to be awesome.

I can't wait to learn lots more about Haley's life in Mississippi. Wink

In response to my latest item expressing bewilderment that Haley Barbour is considered a plausible Republican presidential candidate, a reader sends along this Newsweek profile from January:

Quote:The Republican governor of Mississippi keeps a large portrait of the University Greys, the Confederate rifle company that suffered 100 percent casualties at Gettysburg, on a wall not far from a Stars and Bars Confederate flag signed by Jefferson Davis. Then there's the man himself. Rather than walking across the street from his office to the state capitol, he rides a hundred or so yards in the back seat of a large SUV, air conditioning on full blast.

A Confederate battle flag signed by Jefferson Davis? Seriously? I'm not sure what the Democratic equivalent of this would be. Maybe a Soviet flag signed by Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.

There's also this bit from Barbour's 1982 Senate run:

Quote:Confederate battle flag signed by Jefferson Davis? Seriously? I'm not sure what the Democratic equivalent of this would . Maybe a Soviet flag signed by Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.

There's also this bit from Barbour's 1982 Senate run:

[quote]In 1982, he was presented with an unexpected opportunity to run as the Republican candidate against the state's esteemed Democratic senator John Stennis. Stennis was a Mississippi institution but also an octogenarian: "a senator for the '80s, not a senator in his 80s" was Barbour's unofficial motto. The young candidate's inexperience showed, sometimes painfully. Barbour was embarrassed by an aide's nasty remarks about "coons" at campaign rallies. But in reprimanding the aide, he only made things worse. As The New York Times recounted it, Barbour warned the aide that if he "persisted in racist remarks, he would be reincarnated as a watermelon and placed at the mercy of blacks."

Again, I simply can't imagine the Republicans being crazy enough to nominate this man. If they're going to nominate a terrible nominee, they might as well go with one they really love, like Sarah Palin. But Obama-Barbour would be a hell of a thing to watch, wouldn't it?

Good for him, we need more "crazy" people to run in the republican primary, the more the better. I can't wait to see the all up there on stage debating, lying, attacking each other, and making the whole party look like morons!

So far I haven't seen one candidate that could change the view that the nuts are taking over. I remember all of Mitts lies the last time around, like he was an "life long" hunter, but when the facts came out he had never bought a hunting license in his life, never owned a gun, and the only thing he ever shot at was rats at a local dump! roflmao

I honestly think that any republican with half a brain will stay out of the 2012 elections and wait till 2016 when they won't have president Obama to run against. This will leave the primaries open to all those "crazies" who want to make a name for themselves, while giving us all some good laughs!

I'd honestly like to know what motivates some politicians to run for president when they know they don't have the chance of a snowball in hell?
Is there that much money in running a losing race? Does even a failed run make money for the candidate's backers?

I wouldn't rule him out. He has been a national figure, including his time as RNC Chair. He has the potential to raise money and build an organization. One or two candidates will emerge as the top conservative challenge to Romney and it could be Barbour. The Republican establishment leaders may be more comfortable with someone they know like Barbour over a true believer like Huckabee.

The only thing it could do is raise their profile, so maybe there is money indirectly in that. Case in point: Caribou Barbie.

What's the story with all the candidates going to Israel? Is this some kind of dog-whistle appeal to the end-timers?

You know who they want to get over their next? You know it - Mrs. "Blood-Libel" Herself. The mass media coverage of such a trip makes me want to hide. Hiding

That's exactly what it is. It has nothing to do with any affection for Judaism or for Israel's long-term security. It's a mix of weird apocalyptic theology with a dash of anti-Muslim vitrol tossed into the mix.

What is unfortunate is the degree to which some people fall for it.

Great description. Fits perfectly.

See, Mr. Barbour, the thing about being a fat white racist is that even if you lose 40 pounds and dress it up with flowery language, you're still a fat white racist who will look even MORE like a fat white racist on a stage next to the first multi-racial President in history.
