Gingrich won’t win nomination; he won’t even win in Georgia
The pubs are stepping right up to run for prez in 2012. The debates should be wild, teabagger vs traditional pub.

In little more than a year — Feb. 7, 2012, to be exact — Republican voters in Georgia will go to the polls to cast ballots in a GOP presidential primary.

As Jim Galloway confirmed last week, the name of Newt Gingrich will probably be on the ballot. The former speaker is reportedly telling Georgia Republican leaders that he intends to mount a national campaign out of Atlanta, presumably to try to shed himself of the taint of Washington.

“My offices are here. My grandchildren are here. I’m here regularly,” Gingrich said in a press conference Thursday in Atlanta. “I helped create the modern Republican Party in Georgia starting in 1960. I have a certain fondness for being back in Atlanta.”

Gingrich did make his name here, but he then moved on to pastures that he perceived to be greener, as the man is wont to do. And while he might see himself as a co-founder of the modern Georgia Republican Party, that’s not the story you hear from Republicans themselves, many of whom saw Gingrich as far more concerned with pursuing his own national ambitions than with helping to build a party back home. (Shocking, I know).

The Newt disgusts me, he's a bully.

Vanity run by a person with a moon-sized ego who not many even in his own party pay any attention to anymore.

Newt always struck me as the pudgy kid on the playground who was always picked last for everything, and plottted his revenge on perceived enemies his entire life.

Another vain, grasping for attention Republican whose impact on this country was only a negative one as he always put party before country.

He will be little more than a footnote to our nation's history, and he knows it.

And it is eating him up.

Newt is old news. I seriously doubt he has the kind of institutional support necessary for a successful primary bid. As you say, he probably won't even win his own state.

But then, this is going to be a wild primary. I can usually figure out the "Top 3" pretty quickly, but I'm at a bit of a loss here. I think Huckabee and Romney will be two of the top contenders, but they both bring with them so many negatives for one or another segment of their party, that the opposition to them will be fierce. If she runs, I really don't see Palin getting past Super Tuesday, but then with her ego and lack of awareness of anything not in her personal orbit, she's the kind of person that could play spoiler right down the line.

This may be the year of the "who the fuck new?" candidate for the Republicans.

I think you're right that Romney and Huckabee will start out as leading candidates, but neither one will win. It sets the stage for someone currently obscure but with financial backing to take the nomination.

It's gonna be fun watching the Republicans beat up on each other in '12.
They all know they have no chance of winning so look for the eventual nominee to be a throw away much the way Dole was in '96.
