NH GOP elects Tea Party activist as chair
All sorts of weirdness emerging from today's NH Republican State Committee meeting in Derry.

Tea Party/9-12/Free Stater favorite Jack Kimball defeats Juliana Bergeron in the race for state Republican chair. Bergeron had the backing of outgoing chair John (Papa Doc) Sununu and most of the establishment wing of the party.

Establishment Republican Steve Duprey won the national committeeman position despite being on vacation in, and I am not making this up, Antarctica. It is warmer in Antarctica than in Derry at the moment (not making that up, either).

In the presidential straw poll, it was:

Mitt Romney: 36%
Ron Paul 11%
Tim Pawlenty 8%
Sarah Palin 7%
Michelle Bachmann 5%
Jim DeMint 5%
Herman Cain 4%

Yes, a third of the vote went to candidates who are batshit whacked.

I don't need to know this - I could have simply gone to the local bar and listened to the rednecks regurgitating Reagan era slogans. Rolleyes

But, thanks for reminding me about some of the finer points of living in NH. Tongue

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Hey, between Kimball and state reps like Andrew Manuse ("my blog posts are inspired by God") and Lars Christiansen ("hey, what are 60 acts of child molestation between friends"), this place is going to look more and more like a mix between David Lynch and Monty Python.

Hey, I'd watch that movie.

I call that one fellow "Manure" ever since you told me how evil he is. Some towns are clearly more Republican and "dumber" than the rest. I feel blessed Facepalm

Thanks for this, Peadar..it's interesting seeing what other states are doing and who they're electing to represent them.

Looks like their "straw poll" in NH didn't go for the teabagger as the top winner anyway..although I'm betting Mitt could get down and teabag it with the best of them if it meant getting votes.

Don't forget that Oven Mitt was governor of a state neighboring NH - he's got an advantage here that doesn't exist in other parts of the country.

Tea Party Activist Takes Over New Hampshire Republicans

<snip>

"A rancorous fight to lead the New Hampshire Republican Party through next year’s presidential race ended Saturday with an upset victory by a conservative activist backed by members of the Tea Party and other grassroots groups.

Jack Kimball, a relative newcomer to party politics who ran for governor last year as a fiscal and social conservative, beat Juliana Bergeron, who leads the Cheshire County Republicans and was backed by former Gov. John Sununu, the outgoing state party chairman.

The race was closely watched as a sign of how much influence Tea Party groups will exert here in the lead-up to New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary, tentatively scheduled for Feb. 14, 2012.

Mr. Sununu said Ms. Bergeron was a proven leader and fundraiser who could unite all of the party’s factions. In a strongly worded speech before the vote, Mr. Sununu said he was worried about divisions within the party and warned that its leaders must not alienate more moderate members and independents, who make up about 40 percent of the state’s voters."

How many other states will fall into the teabaggers hands? They don't make any sense, just noise.
