Electrical
The government should take over all the power grids and plants. Solar, coal , wind, etc. These companies will not spend the money to upgrade our power grids. This would allow the government to take over all power companies and see which ones are truly needed. We could then shutdown things like all coal plants. The grid could be brought up to date. With out the worry of profits energy bills would be greatly lowered. The poor would have to pay anything for energy or very little. Department of Energy should be running all our energy sources. I think the power would be back on in the damaged areas by now if this was so. This could be done with the National Defense Resource Preparedness Act. This was an executive order done on march 16. It's time to use it.

RE: Electrical
Our state voted down renewable energy legislation despite the fact that all of the states around us have it. Michigan is so backwards sometimes. But good luck trying to pry this from the hands of states.

Dennis Kucinich wouldn't even buy into that idea.

Iagree

Socialist nationalized industries have horrible environmental records. It doesn't work well when the government doesn't serve as enviro watchdog because the government has a financial incentive to pollute.

Local public utilities and rural co-ops have a good record though. They usually provide cheaper power, better service, and cleaner energy than private utilities. They're more accountable to their customers than private utilities or nationalized ones.

RE: Electrical
It does piss me off how horrible our power grid is up here.

The only difference in the lines that are constantly getting knocked off the "sticks" that they rest on is that 50 years ago the insulators were glass, now they're ceramic. Oh, and we're way more dependent on having power for heat, water and entertainment than ever. The government probably shouldn't take over, but they ought to provide incentives/funding for upgrading our current power grid.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

I blame Cuomo for slamming LIPA from the start. All he did was enrage people. The COE isn't out in the field only the workers. The people only have the lineman to take their rage out on. Cuomo should pay for this guys medical and lost pay out of his own pocket. Maybe even brought up on charges. F Cuomo.
