Minnesotans: "Let's not do that again"
Yesterday the DFL (Democratic-Farmer-Labor party) took back the Minnesota state house and Minnesota state senate. Republicans had won both house and senate in 2010, having run on a platform of "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs." Instead, what the people of Minnesota got was a state government shutdown in 2011, anti-gay-Marriage and voter-id amendments to vote on, and a $100,000 Republican sex scandal that the taxpayers are paying for.
When the Minnesota GOP took both house and senate in 2010, the last time the GOP had held both state entities was 40 years ago prior. During the past two years, Minnesotans have had Mark Dayton (DFL) as governor whose approval rating is relatively high (53%/33%). Having a democratic governor was the only thing stopping a Wisconsin-style Scott Walker situation. As of Tuesday, the Minnesota house is Democratic, the Minnesota senate is Democratic, and the marriage and voter-ID amendments have been rejected. Minnesotans, and anyone who has ever lived there, visited there, or even had passing thoughts about the state, breathe a collective sigh of relief. Now, with Governor Dayton and the DFL legislature, they can get some work done.
