RE: In 2008, Barack Obama won the presidency with 53% of the vote, not "47%"
Hey Jaxx, yes, I take the point of Romney's "50.1%" strategy -- however, there are two things that bother me about the "47%" brouhaha that's going on -- 1) it's not so much that Romney said 47% of Americans don't pay taxes, it's that he glibly stated that 100% of the 47% of those who support Obama are in essence, freeloaders; 2) Looking at the 2008 election results, McCain took 46% percent, Obama took 53% -- and there seems to be a kind of "memory hole" groupthink starting to develop around the reversal of those figures. Granted, Romney could have been referencing something other than the 2008 election results, but given his relentless mendacity, I rarely give him the benefit of the doubt anymore. That said, the fact that the 47% number has tangled up his own "base" in its net is a welcome result of the law of unintended consequences.
