Romney & Co pledge to overpay insurance companies & help people game the system
Undeterred, Romney and his surrogates, including Paul Ryan, are now selling Romney's "$716 Billion" lie more aggressively than ever, mentioning it in every single interview and stump speech -- the quote below is from Romney's Univision appearance yesterday (9/19): Quote:"I have experience in health care reform. Now and then the president says I'm the grandfather of Obamacare. I don't think he meant that as a compliment but I'll take it. This was during my primary, we thought it might not be helpful. But, um, I've actually been able to put in place a system that fit the needs of the people of my state, and I'm proud of the fact that in my state, after our plan was put in place, every child has insurance, 98 percent of adults have insurance, but we didn't have to cut Medicare by $716 billion to do that. Romney-the-con-man can't stop lying. So, the truth is, if Romney is determined to restore that $716 billion in cost savings to Medicare, here's what he's saying: "On Day 1, I'll make sure that the US government once again makes unnecessary, bloated overpayments to insurance companies. Next, I'll make sure shysters can game the Medicare system by clearing the way for them to once again perpetrate waste, fraud and abuse. Lastly, I'll make sure significantly less people have access to Medicare, that way, we'll have to go back to paying Medicare providers higher rates." The NYT has an excellent, bold-faced take-apart of Romney's "$716 Billion" lie: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/19/opinio...wanted=all |
