Thank you, Prez - we're better off than in 2001-2008!

The Prez' speech tonight - while admittedly not quite as dramatic as the 2008-history-making-first-African-American-presidential-nominee-gives-his-acceptance-speech -- was like cheering for family for me. This President, this amazing man, has made such a difference in my life, in my family's life - because he has walked the walk - even as Republicans and "the professional left" did their best to cut him off at the knees every step of the way --

GOBAMA 2012!

Love ya, man! Thank you for being an amazing human being.

They are a beautiful family, and I think that's why I like Obama so much, because he's real. Michelle is real. I can relate to them. When Michelle Obama gave her speech, when she was talking about growing up, in many ways she was describing my life. And while the President had a more "exotic" upbringing than I did, it was still closer to my upbringing than certainly Romney's was. Obama is the real deal!

I thought it was just as inspiring, but in a way that speaks to the very soul of what it means to be an American and do the work that Americans do every day. In a very subtle way, he put a face to the words "We Built This". That's what it means to be an American, a citizen that builds communities that nurture and teach and heal and lift up our families and neighbors. I was choked up in several spots and by the end, my and my hubby were both blubbering. And if I'm not a crier, good gracious he is really not a crier. But there was this big burly guy, who has no more problem shooting a deer than fixing a ribbon in his granddaughter's hair, taking off his glasses and bawling like a baby. It was an amazing speech, sure to stir the heart of the most cynical person if they'll just sit still and hear it.

Excellent speech. I think 2008 was better but tonight's was still amazing. The theme of citizenship was excellent and provided a contrast to the tea party Republicans.

A lot of people are happy that he said climate change isn't a hoax. Unfortunately, a lot of people are moaning because clean coal definitely is a hoax.

BTW, DeFazio is supporting the train that will move coal through our district to a Pacific port. Quite the left wing hero there. He does it every time. I am still looking at exactly how the coal will be transported and what kind of direct threat it is to the environment, but I never claimed to be a lefty green god.

Durbin is the same way. He's great on the environment but he's still a big supporter of clean coal subsidies. The politics around that are changing though. It will stop when the political cost of supporting coal is high enough.

I need to know if coal dust comes off of the train cars, if it's visible or causes documented health or environmental damage; and if there is any kind of car that closes the coal in so at least that part of the damage is contained.

Check out this photo. Yes, coal dust is harmful and there are regulations against it. That doesn't mean they're enforced. Throwing a cover over the coal cars is a simple solution but I never see them. That costs extra time and money.

Thanks Will. There is no question that Oregon won't stand for that, especially over here in the coast. I don't think we can stop the train because Democrats fought to get the rail company between Eugene & Coos Bay, kind of economically stupid to fight long term and consistent business to support it. At least we can get in the game on transporting it more cleanly and drawing attention to how its used on the other end. We don't have any coal-fired electricity in Oregon so most people know nothing about it - as you might be thinking "I could tell". lol.

Gods, what a convention. We have greatness among us...
Every single speaker built up to this finale with the President. Obama's was a very sober and sobering speech, and then KA-POW! the last 5 or 10 minutes were goosebumps all the way and tears in our eyes.

Biden! Joe -- how I love Joe Biden. Did you catch how he framed the auto industry rescue -- his father, an auto industry employee, and Romney's father, an auto industry owner/CEO? The life-lessons absorbed by the two sons? That part of his speech all by itself was absolutely masterful, and the rest of it was just as good.

The Big Dog! The looks on the faces of the crowd -- eyes literally shining -- shows that Bill Clinton has not lost an iota of his charisma and ability to hold a crowd in the palm of his hand.

Love YaLove YaLove YaLove YaLove YaLove YaLove YaLove YaLove YaLove Ya

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever does. ~Margaret Mead~

Loved reading all of your reactions to the Prez' speech and to the convention as a whole. Can't believe these three days are over already! Still riding high. And I was gobsmacked to tune in this morning to see even Joe Scarborough loudly and proudly say this was the best convention he'd attended going back to 1980 - even he was fired up! I knew our Dems would make us proud and they surely did.
