Flo, the Progressive Girl vs Mitt Romney.

Tonight a friend stopped by and we talking and for some reason the subject of Flo, the Progressive Girl came up. I'm sure you've all seen her, she's that irritating, nauseating spokeswoman for Progressive Insurance. I can't stand her. She drives me nuts!

He asked me why I don't like her and said it's just something about her that drives me up a wall, like nails on a chalk board, but I mentioned I know apparently I'm in the minority because she has her own Facebook page which I found out when one of my friends "liked" her page. He wanted to see her FB page so I showed it to him and I was surprised to see she has over 4 million likes!

So then we moved on to a different subject but after he left I was for some reason still thinking about that woman and trying to figure out why so many people like her...then I remembered the last time I looked at Mitt Romney's page, several months ago, he had, if I was remembering right, around 4 million likes, so I went to his page again tonight and saw that Flo, the Progressive Girl has more likes on Facebook than Mitt Romney! She has 4,332,097 likes to his 4,213,885 likes!

What this means, if anything, I don't know, but I just thought I'd share this little tibit. For the record, Barack Obama has 27,790,175 likes!

Now that I think more about it, there was a recent story about Mitt Romney suddenly, out of the blue, gaining hundreds of thousands of followers on Twitter:

One of the more amusing finds: At least five of Romney’s newfound followers shared the same profile picture, which turned out to be that of an Internet marketer named Ben Sarma. And then there was news about Facebook identifying some 83 million fake accounts:

Quote:In an updated regulatory filing released Wednesday, the social media company said that 8.7 percent of its 955 million monthly active users worldwide are actually duplicate or false accounts.

"On Facebook we have a really large commitment in general to finding and disabling false accounts," Facebook's chief security officer Joe Sullivan told CNN in a recent interview. "Our entire platform is based on people using their real identities."

So what are those 83 million undesired accounts doing? They're a mixture of innocent and malicious, and Facebook has divvied them up into three categories: duplicate accounts, misclassified accounts and "undesirable" accounts.

So now I can't help but wonder how many of Romney's "likes" on Facebook are fake? I can't imagine anyone opening up a fake FB account just to like Flo, but I could see the right-wingers doing that to help Romney out! Just pure speculation on my part, but Flo, the Progressive Girl may be even more popular than Mittens than the numbers show!

He isn't a household name among progressives outside Ohio but he should be. His father started Progressive Insurance and Peter retired as its CEO in 2000.
