Baptist church in Mississippi refuses to marry black couple

A predominantly white church in Mississippi has refused to marry a couple because they are black.

Update at 9:50 a.m. ET: The Rev. Stan Weatherford was asked why he gave into the wishes of the members who didn't want the wedding held at the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs.

"I was just trying to think about a win-win," he said Sunday to the Clarion-Ledger. "The thing is, I'm a peacemaker, and sometimes because I'm a peacemaker it gets me in trouble. The thing about it is this: I love the people of our church and that's the bottom line."

I'll bet they had no problem taking the couple's money from the collection basket every Sunday.

The pastor is not a peacemaker, he's a coward for letting this stand. If he wanted to keep his head down and hide, he should've been a corporate shill. He has no business in a position that requires honor and integrity.

Racism in the 21st Century. I guess that means we aren't "post-racial". I shouldn't be shocked.

I added the "church" to my bigots & bullies board last week. I like to make them very specific incidents with every day faces. I think too many people believe the racist stories are made up or hyped or "have another side". Nope. There's folks who are just bigots and bullies. If you have any I should add, let me know.
