The Assault Weapons ban and the AZ shooting
Loughner had a 9 mm Glock pistol (which he had purchased legally) with a 30 round magazine (came with 2 30 round clips), which he emptied before being tackled while attempting to reload. It's safe to say there would have been less injury and possible less death if Loughner wasn't able to fire 31 rounds (one in the gun) before having to reload. The Assault Weapons ban had a limit on the size of the magazine.

I hope this tragedy spurs Congress to revisit that law and pass a replacement (with some reasonable changes and accommodations)

IOW, we must keep taking $$$ from suckers like the one whose sentiments are expressed above.
Can we overcome that? Is the NRA THAT powerful?

The gun control issue will not be visited in the near future because the Republican controlled House will not allow it to be visited.

Yet another example of the disaster that happened this past November when the Republicans took back the House because Democrats didn't vote.

RE: The Assault Weapons ban and the AZ shooting
Even if the assault ban were in place this guy would have been allowed to purchase this gun.

Once again Facepalm we have to go back to Reagan and his decision to rid the country of State and Gov run mental institutions. Yes, they were in bad shape but to eliminate them completely and hope that something would miraculously appear to fill the gap for the mentally ill was foolish.

The guy that shot Reagan, this guy, the guy that shot John Lennon and many other instances of mass shootings mental illness combined with automatic weapons have been a deadly combination.

The HCR bill actually has a provision to deal with Mental Health in this country and we need to talk about how it will benefit communities.

I was wondering how the heck he shot 20 people with a single clip Shocked Really, why do right-wing nut jobs get all bent out of shape that many people think that a normal 9mm 17+1 shot clip is more than enough for a self-defense weapon? Heck, the weapon gets awkward and the clip/bullets end up adding 1/3 or more to the weight of the pistol - what is the point unless you're out to kill a lot of people?

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous
