US Olympic team: Made in America. The uniforms? Not so much
Quote:http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/07...-in-china/

That’s because Ralph Lauren manufactured each piece of the uniform, from the unique hat to the designer jacket to the shoes, in China.

Outsourcing practices like those used by companies like Ralph Lauren have resulted in the loss of 2.8 million jobs to China since 2001, and the apparel and accessories and textile industries were among the hardest hit. China is notorious for its lack of labor standards — its workers often toil for long hours for low pay in horrendous working conditions. But even with American workers struggling to regain a foothold after millions of jobs were lost in the Great Recession, Ralph Lauren and the U.S. Olympic Team think its more important to make more money than make their products in the United States.

What a shame that the cheap labor wins the Olympics. Made in China puts a black mark on the USA Olympics.

It's sad when even good ol' American hyper-patriotism can't beat the corporate bottom line. Shrug

P.S. Not too thrilled with the design, either. Rolleyes

The uniforms look like they belong on a yacht, and a French yacht at that. Where is the spontaneous look of happy athletes that we usually see with the USA team? Is this the look of a Romney event??

They look uncomfortable.
Wasn't it just a few Olympics back that the athletes wore jogging suits? Seems more appropriate for a sporting event.

Yes, athletic wear is the usual outfit for the USA. And for gawds sakes can the freakin socks on the woman or give her a granny shawl to go with them.

The women should be wearing slacks too. And white? omg... every little bit of dirt is going to show. What a nightmare!

This could be a picture from my 1960's yearbooks (except tor the berets) or a Pat Boone movie.

The uniforms were based off of early 1940's
U.S uniforms...

How stupid are they to make the uniforms in China....Facepalm
