Snowplow drivers challenge Labor Department ruling absolving Sioux Falls John Hult • jhult@argusleader.com • January 10, 2011 A union that represents snowplow drivers is suing Sioux Falls over extra pay it says the workers were unfairly denied in 2009 through shady city practices. Union leaders said the city's refusal to pony up time-and-a-half pay - around $1,500 worth - for an overnight shift Dec. 7, 2009, is a sign of its willingness to cut the budget on the backs of its employees. City officials, along with an administrative law judge who sided with the city during a grievance hearing last year in Pierre, said Sioux Falls did nothing wrong and that the city needs flexibility to deal with snow emergencies.
