Axelrod describes scene at Obama campaign HQ: 'Cheering, crying, hugging'

The kids in the campaign were out in the big bullpen watching on TV—it was projected on the wall," Axelrod said. "We’re looking at our devices and watching on Twitter and the first thing that comes across is the CNN piece that says the mandate is struck down and we’re trying to absorb this and all of a sudden there’s a big cheer outside and we’re saying, 'What the heck is this?"

<..> "Then the fact of what happened became clear to us and Messina and I both kind of got overcome," he said. "It was an emotional moment. We went outside and all these kids were cheering and crying and hugging, and it really was a reminder of why you do the work."

This decision meant so much to the people who worked for it, along with everyone who will benefit from the ACA.

I choked up a little and I didn't have anything to do with designing or passing this wonderful legislation.
I'm more than happy that they were able to celebrate a victory.

That's awesome! I was so thrilled, too - and then, looking around at my colleagues who were gossiping, checking out sports websites, etc., and who had not a clue about, nor an iota of interest in the Supreme Court decision - for a moment I wondered if maybe I take all this stuff too seriously.

Reading the decision must have been stressful - I started reading it today and if I didn't know the outcome before I started reading it, then the beginning would have been scary depressing!
