RE: Right Wingers vowing to move to Canada to escape socialism
Why do people of both parties say they're going to move to Canada when things go wrong?
Canada does have an immigration policy - you can't just "go" to Canada to live.
Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid
The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

Don't tell a winger that! You'll just get an earful.

Maybe it's because the draft dodgers, who may have been accepted there, gave that impression? I guess it just gets picked as being English speaking and right there. Distance is what protects OZ and NZ from the same threat!
It's definitely the draft-dodging that gives people the impression that they can just up and move to Canada. Unless you have some high-tech skill that they need in Canada, and a job to go to there, it's pretty unlikely that you'll get in without having to go through a waiting period.

and the Quebec area is very strict on getting citizenship.
