Jim and Sarah Brady on Tucson Shooting
Jan 9, 2011

Statement from Jim and Sarah Brady:

"We are deeply saddened and deeply angered by the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, members of her staff, Judge John Roll, and the constituents, including a 9-year-old child, who had assembled with her outside of a Tucson grocery store today.

We know the deep pain and horror that all the family members and loved ones who have been made victims by this man and his gun are going through. We wish we didn’t, but we know it too well. We were there almost 30 years ago, dealing with the doctors, the hospital, the surgeons, and so much uncertainty.

We offer our condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. We offer our assistance, in any way that it might be helpful, to those who have survived and will struggle, as we have, to heal from the unspeakable horror of gun violence."

RE: Jim and Sarah Brady on Tucson Shooting
Jim and Sarah Brady do know what the family is going through right now, and what they will face down the road. It is good of them to speak to the tragedy in this way.

RE: Jim and Sarah Brady on Tucson Shooting
I am old enough (64) to have seen the aftermath of the political shootings on tv starting with JFK, MLK, RFK, RR, JB and now GG. I have watched in horror as the details come out, as the families try to cope and as the shooters are either put on trial or killed (Oswald). It never gets any easier to see, the horror never gets any less and the reasons never get any saner. I cannot wrap my mind around what brings a person to want to kill someone and the stupidity for doing it for political reasons.

These senseless acts do great harm to our country, bring fear to the masses and put everyone on guard. JFK was killed on my 17th birthday, and I watched those 4 days on the tv like most Americans. Crying, wondering what will happen and mourning the loss of the new generation taking this country forward. I suppose that day I became a Democrat because any other way would be foreign to me. I saw some JFK in Barack Obama, that resonance to bring us forward again, that hope for the future. I have been afraid for BHO all this time, knowing he is hated like Kennedy was...more so because he is a black man.

I'm rambling, these things affect me greatly. They bring back the memories of the others and the dark days of this country. Nothing is ever the same again.
