A tweet that makes me uneasy
From an AP tweet:

Quote:Pope meets with cardinals investigating leaks; interrogation of butler to resume next week

What is it about having the words "Pope", "Cardinals" and "interrogation" all in the same sentence that makes me uneasy?

"In a time of universal deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act." --George Orwell

RE: A tweet that makes me uneasy
I have been so disappointed with this Pope. Not that I didn't see it coming. I still remember when there was white smoke at the Vatican and how exciting it was that we had a new Pope. I watched it with my mom in her kitchen and remember thinking that it better not be Ratzinger. When they came out to announce, and I heard his name, I was pretty pissed. My mom didn't understand why and told me to give him a chance, but I knew. I knew.

As much as John Paul II irked me, he wasn't this militant.

I know it's awful, and dare I say blasphemous, but the only comfort I take with the Church right now is that Benedict probably doesn't have much more time left on this earth. My hope is that the next Pope is a bit more open-minded than the current. Unfortunately, we might get someone who's even more militant, specifically Peter Turkson, who many believe will be the first modern-day black Pope. Turkson is extremely conservative. Painfully conservative. He makes Ratzinger look like a 21st Century Thomas Paine - though I'll give him credit on contraception. He does seem to be more open to the idea of it than Rat, so, there's that.

Well DI truth be known Cardinal Ratzinger was fairly liberal until he had his hat handed to him by the South American Bishops Conference in the 1980's and then he became the Vatican's attack dog on dogma.. All politics all the time.. John the 23rd promoted Liberation Theology and John Paul went head to head to try and overturn it.

I knew he wrote some liberal material back in the day, but by the time the papal conclave began, and the media speculated he was the front-runner, he had already made a dramatic lurch toward a right-wing theology.

The Catholic Church needs to really enter the 20th Century on a lot of issues because they're 100 years behind the rest of the world and it is having a huge impact not only on their members, but mankind. Their continued refusal to address condoms & AIDS in Africa is just absolutely a travesty and maybe that's one good thing about Peter Turkson possibly becoming the Pope.

But then again, they get so caught up on the gays and abortion that they ignore every other major issue. These are not the two pressing needs of our time. Yet to many Catholics, and especially the Church, they are and everything else is secondary.

RE: A tweet that makes me uneasy
I just read a news story that the Papal office responsible for "disciplining" all those naughty nuns is the same that was responsible for The Inquisition.
