The return of the "Company Store"

The return of the "Company Store"
The "company store" .. in a new guise has unfortunately returned to the United States.

The old "company store" model was like the ones that were used in the coal fields of the W. Va, Va. Kentucky etc. People had to borrow money from their employer to get enough food to feed their family for the week.. and when pay day came up .. they got a much smaller check.. and in reality over the course of time.. the miner.. or the farm hand..etc.. became indentured servants to their employers living in abject poverty and always always in dun to the "company store".

We are now seeing that return of indentured servants to the "company store".. with things like Citizens United.. and instead of the poorest at the bottom of the economic ladder.. we are seeing people climbing up the economic ladder or starting getting promoted in their career of choice having to kowtow to the Kochs or Murdochs. even Seldon Adelson (who is also mucking up Israeli politics with his money right now)

Politicians are dancing to the tune these types of people playing. They are owned body and soul by them.

And with the systematic destruction of the unions.. they are working to get all of us back in the company store.

This is possibly the most crucial election of my lifetime. We have to put in all democrats, and put daylight into the money process that was loosed on us by Citizens United.. because the republicans are all marching to the company store. They are no longer free to think their own ideas.

Thoughtful responses are the first victims of partisan passions.

RE: The return of the "Company Store"
I've thought of the company store analogy too. It's all about keeping us needy. Not that they would help us, but to put their boot on our necks.

RE: The return of the "Company Store"
Right out of the chorus of Tennessee Ernie Ford's hit song, "Sixteen Tons":

You load sixteen tons, what do you get
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

BTW, the song was a #1 hit...in 1955! We should not be trying to return to the not-so-good-ol'-days.
