Dylan Ratigan Leaving MSNBC

Dylan Ratigan, the opinionated and sometimes hotheaded television host, is leaving MSNBC, the cable channel where he has worked for the last three years.

Mr. Ratigan, whose news analysis show is now broadcast at 4 p.m. Eastern time, said in a telephone interview that he was electing to leave cable so that he could put into practice what he has talked about on TV. Mr. Ratigan has attacked political systems, corporations and special interests on his show and promoted movements for job creation, bank reform and campaign finance reform in the past.

I never watched much. He seemed like another guy trying to be an angry, entitled loud mouth just like the right-wing talk show hosts. That never appeals to me.

All the best to him, but I never cared much for his style
Ranting bothers me.

I get the feeling that MSNBC has been trying out this'n'that style-wise, for the past several years. I'm not sure why they decided to brand themselves the (more or less) liberal cable tv, but I'm sure that corporate marketing may have had as much to do with it as -- say, ethical journalistic decisions coming from the top. (My gods, but the Bush Era squeezed a lot of optimism and faith in humanity out of me, didn't it?)

One of the offshoots of that decision is the way they've promoted really, really bright women. Rachel Maddow has a PhD. Melissa Harris-Parry has a PhD and is a professor. I don't know about the others who are getting their own shows, but where else besides PBS are you going to find female talent of that caliber?

I'm grateful though, and I hope it really works for them because we desperately need the liberal viewpoint represented.

Now if they could only steal Fareed Zakaria from CNN, they'd have the perfect storm of fabulous journalism.

Hekate, I still can't stomach Joe Scarborough. He's a condescending puke.

That's the truth. But since I'm in California, he comes on much, much too early for me to watch.
