It is basically the same thing as the lifts they use in automotive repair shops. They are advertised in automotive magazines. Usually they lift one car off the ground for either service or to be able to put another car underneath so two cars can be stored in the space of one.
The one Romney is getting works in reverse. You drive a car onto it and lower it into a hole below the floor. The top of the "elevator" is a plate that then covers the hole in the floor to hide the opening and allowing another car to be driven onto it.
From what I saw on TV, it you don't know the lift is there you'd probably never figure out a car could be under the floor. Good idea for securing a valuable car from damage or theft.

Thanks for the explanation! That must be one valuable car to need to hide its existence like that - as if anyone will be breaking into the Rmoney household to steal cars - they've probably got all kinds of security too.
I'm guessing it is more for space than security. This would allow you, for instance, to store 6 cars in a 3 car garage.
Although, if he owns any collectible cars they can be worth hundreds of thousands or even a few millions of dollars. I doubt they'd be stolen but you would probably want to protect them from accidental damage, you know how hard it is to get good reliable help these days.

Why can't he walk out to his car like the rest of us?
