BREAKING: NAACP Endorses Marriage Equality
The board of the NAACP, the “nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization,” endorsed marriage equality at a meeting this afternoon. The move comes 10 days after President Obama announced his support of same-sex marriage.

The NAACP’s move comes as attitudes about gays and lesbians in the African American community are changing rapidly. A recent poll found that 54% of African Americans supported President Obama’s recent decision.

This could prove to be interesting
Considering the right wing has been trying to drive the wedge between the black community and gays..........Did the NAACP and the effort of some black churches to take on this civil rights issue damage the right wing talking point?

Very intresting indeed..

RE: BREAKING: NAACP Endorses Marriage Equality
"For many years now, I have been an outspoken supporter of civil and human rights for gay and lesbian people. Gays and lesbians stood up for civil rights in Montgomery, Selma, in Albany, Ga. and St. Augustine, Fla., and many other campaigns of the Civil Rights Movement. Many of these courageous men and women were fighting for my freedom at a time when they could find few voices for their own, and I salute their contributions" -Coretta Scott King

A group of African American pastors have gathered to knock the table out from under this one....they are furious at the NAACP for their new stance on gay marriage.

Here we go again.

This made me think of Bayard Rustin and Pauli Murray. It would be nice if some of the overlooked gay and lesbian leaders of the civil rights movement got more recognition now that it's becoming less controversial.
