"Always" means "6 months" to Romney.

Confirmed, Fox "news" makes you stupid

The ones you are noticing are more terrified than anything else. They are lashing out because they are comfortable; and to acknowledge what is happening is a threat to that comfort. Ignore them, for they are not the voices that will rise in the coming days, months and years. They are not the voices of our collected humanity. They are the old voices of fear and impotence. - Anonymous

RE: Mitt said he's always been against gay marriage...er....
From Willard's letter to Log Cabin Club of Massachusetts:

Quote:I am pleased to have had an opportunity to talk with you and to meet many of you personally during your September meeting. I learned a great deal from those discussions and many thoughtful questions you posed. As a result of our discussions and other interactions with gay and lesbian voters across the state, I am more convinced than ever before that as we seek to establish full equality for America's gay and lesbian citizens, I will provide more effective leadership than my opponent.

I am not unaware of my opponents considerable record in the area of civil rights, or the commitment of Massachusetts voters to the principle of equality for all Americans. For some voters it might be enough for me to simply match my opponent's record in this area. But I believe we can and must do better. If we are to achieve the goals we share, we must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern. My opponent cannot do this. I can and will.

We have discussed a number of important issues such as the Federal Employee Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA), which I have agreed to co-sponsor, and if possible broaden to include housing and credit, and the bill to create a federal panel to find ways to reduce gay and lesbian youth suicide, which I also support. One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton's "don't ask, don't tell, don't pursue" military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation's military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.

This is just what I do not get at all. Is he not smart enough to know all this stuff is on record and easily retrievable thanks to current technology?

Or worse, is he too arrogant to care?

Only explanation is that they're sociopaths. I just don't understand where their conscience is? I would be too embarrassed to walk out the door after being caught in as many lies and blunders as he has. And he's not alone, there's a long list of Republicans, primarily, who are the same. Nothing shames them in the least.

It's like they A) have completely and utterly forgotten the contradictory crap they have spewed or B) have experienced cognitive dissonance in which they have simply put it out of their minds as if it never existed.

Mitt Romney was for civil unions and then he was against civil unions. Guy has no spine.

Note Romney's statement today that he's always believed that marriage is between a man and a woman since... well, since... he's "been running for office." Facepalm

Good old "Say and Do ANYTHING to get elected" Mitt.

Technically, I don't think he ever said he was for gay marriage specifically, even though you could imply that from what he said back then. If he did say this specifically, I need to know as I want to counter some dimwit on Reddit who said it's the only issue he's been consistent on and nobody has said otherwise yet.

By inference I don't see how you could go speak to a group of LGBT people, courting their vote, telling them you support equal rights, and somehow leave marriage out of the equation.

Uhhh - Obama did something similar.

I was just about to say that. In Oregon, the BRC slogan was "Protection, Not Perfection". Equal rights doesn't have to mean marriage, and there are other rights that marriage doesn't protect - housing, employment, come to mind. Ultimately we need to jump start ERA to include everybody.

Willard is a serial liar. When confronted he just pivots and goes on like it never happened. It's a major character impediment for him showing he has no reason to answer the peasants questions.

Wrong. Obama did not court the Gay vote explicitly to gay audiences only to fail to follow through in actions, and then deny ever having done that.

Your rush to equivalency has clouded your view.

The quote in question, not the one that says anything about courting the gay vote or not following through or denying your past statements. That quote doesn't exist in this thread.

"By inference I don't see how you could go speak to a group of LGBT people, courting their vote, telling them you support equal rights, and somehow leave marriage out of the equation."

Which he didn't. He said his personal views on the subject were "evolving" and had nothing to do with the execution of his office. When you find an actual equivalence to Mitten's nonsense, get back to me.
