Denying citizenship un-American
Some of the current state (Arizona) measures would attempt to strip national citizenship from children of illegal immigrants. Others, recognizing that states have no power over federal citizenship, would deny these children birth certificates, obliterating their very humanity.

These bills are immoral, un-American, and unconstitutional.

The idea behind them is that a state can punish a child for the sin of being born - if he or she is born to parents who are in this country illegally. But these children are American citizens. The Constitution says so in the clearest possible terms.

**snip**

America exists for all its people. If we permit lawmakers to create a new class of American untouchables, we will be violating fundamental morality, denying our democratic heritage, and creating a social problem that will set our own children's teeth on edge for many years to come.

I recommend reading the entire piece. It's very good.

Unfortunately, the people who are pushing for these kinds of things think that no one has a right to be a citizen unless they have white skin.

Silence is consent.

These people are entirely stupid not to think the consequences through.

Just idiots. There would be even more "illegal aliens" in the country - impossible to deport some of them, too, as other countries could refuse to take them.

Just plain old stupid. It's a convenience more than anything. We don't enforce the immigration laws we have that well as it is. How much worse it would be.

Then they do not think about other consequences, such as, if one of these illegals marries a U.S. citizen - will they want an exception then? What about other exceptions? The whole idea benefits no one but the members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. It will just increase the number of people with immigration issues and problems.

Not to mention that whenever you needed to prove your citizenship, you'd need not only your own birth certificate, but your mother's or father's. And what of parents with one illegal alien parent and one citizen parent? Citizens or not? And then where would it end, would you need your grandparents' birth certificates too? It would get medieval.

They are just mistaken in believing the sole reason people come illegally is to have "anchor babies." They would still come. If they are not stopped by the fact it is illegal in the first place, they are going to stop just because children they may have here won't be citizens?
