This makes me very happy but I'm even more happy for all the young people in this country who I know are struggling with their sexuality and who now have a role model telling them they are just as worthy and equal as everybody else, something I didn't have when I was growing up. The times they are a-changing and and thank God for President Obama! Clap

While I'm happy about this, I'm not getting why this is such big news? He has always been on the side of marriage equality and did the work to make sure those civil rights are enjoyed equally by all Americans.

It seems words are so much more important than actions.

The last 21 of 25 articles posted to Reddit are on this topic. Are people really this surprised? It was a gutsy thing to do before the election, and I'm glad he came out and said it, but it's not like everybody didn't already know this.

Heavy work day, check the news before dinner on my local paper, read this, come here to see what folks are saying.

I've always thought that a Second Term Obama will be quite different from the first. The clues were in the implicit and spoken support of gender and identity equality.

First Term Obama had more to prove than any other politician in human history and shame on those who would not or could not appreciate that fact and work to give him the second term he deserves.

I'm slightly surprised at the timing of this announcement; I thought it would come shortly after re-election. PBO has obviously decided to lay down the gauntlet to the conservatives. Let's enjoy watching them squirm, repudiate and deny.

That won't take long. With DOMA repealed, I don't think states will have any choice but to honor marriage contracts made in other states.

A week ago I read that Obama was a coward for not speaking out in favor of same sex marriage. This week I read that he's still wrong because he's only pandering to voters when he supports same sex marriage. The cynical third party left sounds about as fair and balanced as Fox news and it's tiring.
