If there were no taxes, democracy would not exist..plain and simple
If we did not have taxes.. Democracy would not exist on any level.
No I am not even talking about paying for roads, schools, sewer systems etc.. all the things that make life livable. No one would have anything.. we would all be peasant rabble begging for the scraps at the table of the land owners. And the land owners could pass their land down generation after generation.. whether someone could do anything with it or not.. would be immaterial.. What would be the incentive of selling a piece of land that great grandpa had to some other owner of land.. because there would be few and far between..All property would be tied up in perpetuity. Would there be skyscrapers or cities.. who knows.. but there would be a landless, business less (hey you can't build a buisness on someone elses' property) class homeless.. depending on the good graces of property owners Taxes are what force people to turn over property..to buy other things..etc etc. Think about the Grover Norquist.. and all those who sign on to no taxes ever letters. Thoughtful responses are the first victims of partisan passions. |
